Terms of Use
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using scrivla.com (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use Scrivla.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. We will notify registered users of material changes by email or in-app notice.
2. Description of the Service
Scrivla is a web-based platform that allows you to:
- Write or import book manuscripts directly in the browser
- Convert manuscripts into EPUB or PDF formats
- Download formatted files for self-publishing or print
The Service is available on a free tier and on a paid Pro subscription basis. Feature availability differs between tiers as described on our pricing page.
3. Accounts & Registration
3.1 Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. By registering, you confirm that you meet this requirement. If you are under 18, you confirm that you have obtained parental or guardian consent.
3.2 Account Responsibility
You are responsible for:
- Providing accurate and complete registration information
- Keeping your password secure and confidential
- All activity that occurs under your account
If you believe your account has been compromised, notify us immediately at support@scrivla.com.
3.3 One Account per User
Each user may maintain one account. Creating multiple accounts to circumvent free-tier limits or suspensions is prohibited.
4. Free Tier & Pro Subscriptions
4.1 Free Tier
Scrivla offers a free tier with access to core features. Free-tier usage may be subject to limits on file size, number of projects, or export volume, as specified on the pricing page. We reserve the right to adjust free-tier limits with reasonable notice.
4.2 Pro Subscriptions
Pro subscriptions are billed on a recurring basis (monthly or annual) at the rates shown at checkout. By subscribing, you authorise us to charge your selected payment method automatically at the start of each billing period.
4.3 Payments & Billing
Payments are processed by a third-party payment processor (such as PayPal). Scrivla does not store your full payment credentials. You are responsible for ensuring your payment details are current. Failed payments may result in suspension of Pro access.
4.4 Cancellation & Refunds
You may cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you retain Pro access until then. We do not offer partial-period refunds except where required by applicable law.
5. Your Content
5.1 Ownership
You retain full ownership of all manuscripts, documents, and other content you create or upload to Scrivla ("Your Content"). These Terms do not transfer any intellectual property rights in Your Content to us.
5.2 Licence to Us
You grant Scrivla a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, process, and convert Your Content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you. We will not use Your Content for any other purpose, including training machine-learning models.
5.3 Content Responsibility
You are solely responsible for Your Content. By uploading content, you represent and warrant that:
- You own or have the necessary rights and licences to the content
- Your Content does not infringe any third-party intellectual property rights
- Your Content does not violate any applicable law or these Terms
5.4 Prohibited Content
You may not use Scrivla to create, upload, or distribute content that:
- Infringes copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights
- Is unlawful, defamatory, obscene, threatening, or harassing
- Contains malware, viruses, or malicious code
- Violates the privacy or personal data rights of any individual
6. AI-Assisted Writing Features
6.1 Availability & API Key
AI-assisted writing is available to all Scrivla users. The feature requires you to provide and manage your own OpenRouter API key. You are responsible for:
- Creating and maintaining your OpenRouter account
- Keeping your API key secure and confidential
- Managing your OpenRouter account balance and usage limits
- Billing and payment directly with OpenRouter
Scrivla does not charge per AI generation or markup OpenRouter's API costs.
6.2 AI-Generated Content Disclaimer
AI-generated content is provided "as-is" by OpenRouter. You are solely responsible for:
- Reviewing and editing all AI-generated text before publishing
- Ensuring generated content meets your quality standards and creative vision
- Verifying factual accuracy, especially for non-fiction
- Compliance with publishing platform policies (e.g., Amazon, Smashwords, Apple Books) regarding AI-generated content disclosure if required
Scrivla makes no warranty as to the accuracy, originality, or quality of AI-generated content. You waive any claims against Scrivla related to AI output quality or errors.
6.3 Model Access by Plan
Free-tier users can only use free-tier models provided by OpenRouter (e.g., Llama 3.1, Gemini Flash free tier). Pro subscribers can access all available models on OpenRouter. Attempting to use paid models without a Pro subscription will result in an error. Upon Pro subscription expiration, access reverts to free models only.
6.4 Usage Limits & Abuse
You may not:
- Attempt to bypass model tier restrictions or access controls
- Use the AI feature to generate content for purposes other than personal or commercial creative writing
- Generate excessively large volumes of content in a short period that would constitute abuse of OpenRouter's service
Abuse of the AI feature may result in suspension of your account and/or legal action.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that: (a) the Service will be error-free or uninterrupted; (b) conversion output will be perfect for all devices or print specifications; or (c) any defects will be corrected within a specific timeframe.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Scrivla and its owners, employees, and contractors shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Service, including loss of data, loss of profits, or loss of manuscripts.
Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall not exceed the greater of: (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) €100 (one hundred euros).
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so the above may not apply to you to the extent prohibited by law.
12. Indemnification

14. Termination
You may delete your account at any time from your account settings. Upon deletion, your data will be removed in accordance with our Privacy Notice.
We may suspend or terminate your account at any time if we believe you have violated these Terms, with or without prior notice. In the event of termination, you will retain the ability to export your content for a reasonable period (at least 14 days) before deletion, except where termination is due to illegal activity.
15. Governing Law & Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Sweden, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall first be submitted to good-faith negotiation. If unresolved, disputes shall be submitted to the competent courts of Sweden, unless mandatory consumer-protection laws in your country of residence grant you the right to bring claims in local courts.
If you are a consumer based in the EU, you may also have access to the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform at consumer-redress.ec.europa.eu.
16. Severability & Entire Agreement
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, it will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, and the remaining provisions will continue in full force.
These Terms, together with our Privacy Notice, constitute the entire agreement between you and Scrivla with respect to the Service and supersede all prior agreements.
